Knoll - Chair (4) - S33

[ translate ]

The S33 is one of the first cantilever chair models in the history of furniture. They were first used in 1927 in the Weissenhof district of Stuttgart. In 1925 Mart Stam had experimented with the assembly of gas pipes connected by flanges, developing the concept of "cantilever" chairs that no longer rest on all four legs. Thus was born the principle of construction which, in the sobriety of its forms, would later become a milestone in the history of modern furniture. Initially Mart Stam did not focus his research on the elastic effect of curved tubular steel, but rather on the study of a linear form that blended well with the modern architecture of the time. The lot in this auction consists of 4 chairs made between the late 1960s and early 1970s by Knoll. The chairs are in good condition. The structures are solid and functional, with a few signs of oxidation and age. The leather, original from the period, is in dark brown colour and still looks tense and robust, and thus is in excellent vintage condition. . The adhesive Knoll marks are present on the metallic structure of the seats Dimensions: 84 x 46. 5 x 54 cm. Transport insurance for European destinations is included in the indicated costs.
