Feliks Koneczny [1862–1949]—historian, philosopher, professor at the Universities of Vilnius and Jagiellonian. Author of numerous works on the history of Poland and Russia, in the 1930s he formulated a theory regarding the multiplicity of cultures and civilizations that constantly clash and compete, shaping the panorama of history. He was a proponent and defender of Latin civilization as a personalist one that fully affirms the potential of human nature; it is also the cradle of our national culture. During the Polish People’s Republic, none of Koneczny’s works were allowed to be published—his writings were published in exile, including in English. His influence is evident, for example, in Samuel Huntington’s theory of the clash of civilizations.
