Konya-Obruk
18th century, 266 x 108 cm, Central Anatolia
Based on their ground colour, usually a golden yellow, Spuhler has coined the term “Yellow Group” for these village rugs from Konya and Obruk. Most of the known pieces are woven in a long format, as is this beautiful example featuring eight rows of two Memling guls identical in drawing and colour. They are separated by nested stepped polygons aligned on the central axis and connected by a pole.

Condition
Signs of age and wear in the pile, some repairs. Corroded brown. Damage to the sides in places as well as restoration in other places. The upper right corner is damaged.
