Korean Silla Pottery Lidded Jar + Stone Hand Axe

East Asia, Korea, Silla Dynasty, ca. 668 to 935 CE. A wheel-thrown redware pottery jar with a flat base, an acorn-shaped body, a tapered interior rim, and a form-fitting lid with a petite handle. Accompanying the vessel is a carved stone hand axe with an ovoid body, a rounded butt end, and a slightly slanted blade edge. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size of largest (jar): 4.1" W x 4.8" H (10.4 cm x 12.2 cm)

Provenance: Estate of William Stockton, Colorado, USA; acquired between July 20, 1966 and January 7, 1974 while Mr. Stockton was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. During this period he traveled primarily to Korea, but also to Japan, Vietnam, and other countries in Southeast Asia.
