Krennerite & Calcite Emperor Mine, Vatukoula, Tavua Gold Field, Viti Levu, Fiji "A 5 cm plate of micro gray white calcite crystals with prismatic silvery krennerite crystals growing on and in the calcite. The krennerite crystals are up to about an inch. There is one that long on the back of the specimen mostly covered with calcite. I bought the specimen from one of the geologists in the mine office at the mine." - Rock H. Currier Krennerite is a combination of two rarely encountered elements: Gold and Tellurium. This might explain why it is so rarely seen, assuming that the contained Gold isn't temptation enough for miners to reduce it to shining metal for coins and the like. This unusual specimen was acquired, at the same time as the wire Gold specimen, during a personal visit to this out-of-the-way island locality. No place was too obscure for Rock to visit in his worldwide quest for mineral specimens. Overall Measurements: 2.0 x 1.2 x 0.3 inches (5.0 x 3.0 x 0.8 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Purchased in Fiji at the mine [RHC #2825, acquired 1977] MinID EWX-UTD [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
