Kuba
first half 19th century, 139 x 100 cm, East Caucasus
The yellow field contains a repeat of palmettes placed in offset rows and interspersed with small filler motifs. The palmettes resemble stylised animal forms, which is why this specific Kuba design is also described as "frog" motif. The wide border section includes a blue main border with a leaf and calyx vine.
LEVI, ALBERTO, Antica Arte Tessile – Antique Textile Art. Milan 2000, no. 13
Condition
Somewhat low pile and minor restorations in the yellow field. Good overall condition.
