Jean-Baptiste de La Chapelle fu un grande matematico del XVIII secolo e ha scritto numerosi articoli di matematica nell'Enciclopedia Diderot d'Alembert. E’ l’inventore della parola "scaphandre" ed è stato attratto dal ventriloquismo. Su questo argomento ha pubblicato nel 1772, uno studio su un droghiere di Saint-Germain-en-Laye, intitolato il “Ventriloque, o engastrimythe”.

Jean-Baptiste de La Chapelle was a great 18th century mathematician and wrote numerous mathematical articles in the Diderot d'Alembert Encyclopedia. He was the inventor of the word "scaphandre" and was attracted to ventriloquism. On this subject he published in 1772, a study on a grocer from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, entitled the “Ventriloque, o engastrimythe”.
