LANVIN CHOCOLATE - c. 1930

“L'Oiseau blanc”

Rare, original, domed enamel advertising plaque. 45 x 24.5 cm. “Emaillerie Alsacienne Strasbourg”

A superb specimen in remarkable condition.

This piece retains a superb freshness: the enamel maintains a perfect mirror-like shine, restoring the original depth, vibrancy, and luminosity of the colors.
The design is enhanced by elegant, slightly embossed lettering.
Unusually, the plaque still has its four original brass eyelets, which remain intact around the mounting holes.
For the sake of full transparency: tiny traces of oxidation are visible along the outer edge of the border, very slight original firing imperfections appear near the tail of the airplane, and very subtle surface scratches can be seen in the upper right corner.

- A remarkable piece -

The chocolatier Lanvin created a commercial line in the late 1920s as a direct marketing tribute to the feat and sacrifice of the pilots of the “L’oiseau blanc” aircraft, Charles Nungesser and François Coli, following their tragic disappearance in May 1927.

Originally from the Nord region, the Lanvins were sugar manufacturers before relocating their business in 1912 to Brazey-en-Plaine to escape competition.
In 1921, the family acquired a small chocolate factory in Dijon on Rue Chabot-Charny, founding the “Sucrerie Bourguignonne et Chocolaterie Lanvin S.A.”
The company gained national fame in 1934 thanks to a major technical innovation: the creation of the legendary and timeless chocolate “Escargot de Bourgogne.”
