LARGE BOWIE KNIFE BY JAMES THOMPSON OF DUBLIN.

Overall length: 18 3/4". Blade length: 12". A scarce example of an Irish made bowie knife by James Thompson of 9 Nassau Street in Dublin, Ireland. This knife was likely made around 1850. Unfullered blade w/ a 4 1/2" false edge at the top. Marked at the ricasso, “JAMES THOMPSON 9 N(ASSAU) (S)T DUBLIN”. Nickel silver, double cloverleaf guard. 2 Piece serrated ebony grip w/ 5 sm. rivets on each side & a lanyard hole at the top. German silver mounted leather scabbard w/ 1 3/4" brass repair at the tip. CONDITION: blade has been heavily sharpened & has several nicks on the edge. Crossguard & grip show light wear. Scabbard mounts show notable verdigris. Scabbard leather & underlying paperboard have deteriorated greatly but are not separated. (02-14610/BF). $500-800.
