LARGE CLOCK WITH BAROMETER AND FLUTE MECHANISM

Louis XVI, Paris ca. 1770/80. The barometer is signed Carcany.

White marble and gilt bronze. Rectangular case on flat, gadrooned feet. Upper part with integrated clock. White enamel dial, painted with a garland, featuring the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals (chipped and with losses), signed by the manufacturer Coteau. Parisian movement, striking the 1/2-hour on bell. The top featuring an angel holding a barometer in gilt bronze. Organ mechanism with 17 wooden pipes. 2 keys and a pendulum.

54 × 29 × 99 cm.

Requires revision. Marble, in part repaired. Losses in the organ mechanism. Hand and glass of the barometer, missing. Barometer, possibly later.

Monumental clock with pipe mechanism, the bronzes of fine quality. The signatory Carcany, on the barometer, cannot be identified in more detail. A barometer with the same signature from around 1730/40 is in the V&A Museum, London (museum number 1121-1882). It is assumed that this signature relates to a restoration of the instrument around 1770.
