LARGE ORNATE VASE WITH A ROW OF PUTTI Probably Thuringia...
LARGE ORNATE VASE WITH A ROW OF PUTTI Probably Thuringia or the Rhineland. Early 20th century. Ceramic, with a dark brown to black patina. Ovoid-conical body resting on a recessed base. The wall is decorated all around with a relief frieze of densely arranged cherubs dancing and playing in the style of Baroque or Classicist historicism. The shoulder and the tapered foot are accentuated by vertical fluting and broad pipe-like decoration; the rim is finished with an egg-and-dart ornamental border. Deeply stamped on the underside is model number 1010, below which is the workshop mark—a capital letter C—and the inscription “Modell” scratched in cursive. Minimal, age-related wear on the dark patina; otherwise in very good, undamaged condition. H: 43 cm.
