LARGE & IMPORTANT JAPANESE CLOISONNÉ VASE, MEIJI. Comprising a large and impressive Japanese cloisonné vase masterfully worked in silver wire and colored cloisonné enamels on a dark blue ground with a profusion of large irises amidst pink grass and other scattered flowers, the slightly flared foot with floral lappets and the flared mouth similarly decorated, Hayashi School, circa 1890. Underside of base with likely the early mark of Hayashi as illustrated. Height 24 inches (61 cm).

Provenance:
Alvin Freemont - Milton Loewenstein Auctioneers, Riviera Beach, Florida, December 1954, where acquired by the consignor, the estate of William Doughtery Smith (1926-2020) Daytona Beach, Florida. Accompanied with original receipt of purchase dated 1954.

Condition Report: Overall very good to excellent condition. Close visual inspection under magnification and ultraviolet black light examination reveals no restoration or repairs. The overall surface is smooth and exhibits no scratches, no nicks, no abrasions, no dents, and no rub marks. Additionally there appears to be no enamel loss, a very fine specimen.
