LATE 1700'S FRENCH HUNTING SWORD.

French gilted brass mounted hunting sword with a straight double edge blade, engraved and gilted with foliage and trophies on a blued panel. The hilt comprises a crossguard cast with dog heads, checkered grip and lion's head pommel. The leather scabbard retaining its throat featuring an engraved panel with boar's head within a hunting horn decoration, drag missing. CONDITION: Blade is mostly bright with areas of minor dark staining mixed with small areas of pitting, gilt and blue decoration show wear. Grip retains most of its gilt finish. Scabbard leather has old restitching but remains strong. Throat retains about 60% gilt surface. DG Blade Length: 25 - 1/4" Overall Length: 31 - 3/8" Condition: Dimensions: Length: 31 - 3/8".
