LATE GERMAN STYLE HALBERD.

Late German style halberd on a squared wood haft. The blade measures measures 8 - 3/8" and the beak measures 3 - 1/2" in length. The squared point measures approximately 11". The blade is struck with a cross that is encountered on other German style halberds. The halberd has its original long iron straps which secure the blade to the squared 76" haft with seven hand forged iron nails on each side. The nails do not match the patina of the straps and appear to have been replaced. The haft also appears to have been added later. CONDITION: The blade, beak, and point exhibit delamination marks which are mostly obscured by the heavy pitting, surface rust, and other blemishes. One of the iron straps has broken near the top at the second nail and the other has warped and does not sit correctly on the haft. The haft exhibits handling wear along with scratches and dents in the wood. Overall good. PROVENANCE: Ex-Lattimer collection. JLD Blade Length: 19 - 1/2" Overall Length: 76"
