Provenance: The artist; purchased in 1932 for $600 through The Guild of Boston Artists; by descent within a Massachusetts family.

Accompanied by several letters from the artist in which she notes that the work was her 226th portrait miniature and that she painted it in 1914.
In the first of these letters Hills states "I asked Mrs. Chadwick to sit for me because of her beauty and definitive [indistinct] and her warm impressive nature."
Ida May (Brooks) Chadwick was the wife of George Whitefield Chadwick a well-known Boston composer.
Condition Report: Overall good condition, not examined out of frame; slightly faded.
