Laurent Ferrier was born in 1946 to a family of watchmakers. Soon after completing his watch making training he joined Patek Philippe, remaining at the company for several decades and rising to the rank of Technical Director. In 2009 Laurent Ferrier left Patek Philippe to start his eponymous brand, producing roughly 150 pieces per year.
As well as being a highly accomplished watch maker Laurent Ferrier is also a semi professional racing driver. In 1979 he finished 3rd at Le Mans, one place behind Paul Newman.
The current watch hails from the Galet collection. Galet, or "pebble" in French, describes the smooth, rounded edges which are signature features of the model.
