SECOND EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY inscribed on the front fly leaf: “The gift of the author / to / M.A. Legh”. Published one year after the first, this is considered the best edition with the added plates. “Legh travelled in Egypt during 1812-1813 with Rev. Charles Smelt, whose journal Legh used in this narrative. Exploring above Aswan, they reached as far as Nubia, where they were among the first modern explorers to examine and illustrate the temples” (Blackmer).
