(1st ed.: 1696) of the first complete treatise ever written on differential calculus, including the original publication of ideas by Leibniz and Johann Bernoulli. As such, this textbook by the French mathematician L'Hospital (1661-1704) is a mathematical milestone. On p. 145 he provides a technique to evaluate limits of indeterminate forms, the "L'Hospital's rule". Although the rule is attributed to him, the theorem was actually the work of Bernoulli.
