LIMITED EDITION ENGLISH STERLING & WOOD COMMEMORATIVE WINE COASTER TROLLY H 5" W 8" L 17" :A limited edition commemorative Wellington coaster wine trolley, hallmarked London, 1977. Having two circular wooden coasters mounted with medallions and a beaded rim, with turned wood bases; each set with a central silver medallion. Both coasters are set on a four wheeled carriage with a swiveling front axle and a horn handle. Marked on handle and throughout. This wine trolley is a reproduction of the original made for King George IV, who was dismayed that his aristocratic guests were obliged to rise from their seats at his table in order to pass the wine. He asked that a solution be found, and Sir Edward Thomason of Birmingham invented this solution. The medals on this example commemorate General Wellington, who famously defeated Napoleon at Waterloo, and other British military victories. The wheels of the trolley have a floral motif and the handle is marked 13/50 and marked with the maker's mark RFE in a rectangle. Weighing 64.56 Troy ounces. Measuring approximately 4.5" tall by 7.75" across and 17" long.
