5 1/2 x 3 7/8 in. cabinet photograph on cardstock mount (approx. 1/2 in. tear to print extending from right edge, with light toning, spotting, and soiling throughout; mount with spotting, toning, and edge/corner wear). Silver gelatin print of the original photograph taken in 1865. Verso with large affixed paper label listing 7 views available for sale at the Lincoln Homestead, including the one featured here: "No. 7. View of the Home taken on the day of the Funeral. May 4th. 1865 (The House is heavily draped)." List undersigned in print by O.H. Oldroyd, State Custodian. Additional pencil inscriptions to verso. Provenance: Osborn H. Oldroyd (pencil inscription to verso noting the photograph was received from Oldroyd in Washington on 17 January 1911).

Osborn H. Oldroyd (1842-1930) served in the 20th Ohio Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, being promoted to the rank of sergeant sometime between his enlistment as a private in October 1861 and mustering out in July of 1865. After the war he published portions of the journal he kept, with the title, A Soldier's Story of the Siege of Vicksburg. Oldroyd is best known, however, for his extensive Abraham Lincoln collection, which was purchased by the US Government in the 1920s.
