6 volumes (only, of 17). 4to (348 x 260 mm). 288 colored lithographic plates. Modern three-quarter red morocco gilt and marbled boards by Invicta Livro, Oporto. Even toning throughout, some spotting and fingermarks, light chipping to outside edges.

FIRST EDITION, of the first six volumes. Jean Jules Linden travelled extensively in South and Central America between 1835 and 1844. He was a plant dealer in Luxemburg from 1845 to 1852, before becoming director of the Jardin Royal de Zoologie et d'Horticulture in Brussels from 1852 to 1861. He continued his work, introducing new plants, and dealing in Brussels and Ghent, being succeeded as director of his company by his younger son Lucien Linden (1853-1940).
