A Canadian painter and war artist, Lionel Fielding Downes (aka: Lionel Fielding-Downes) was born in Wigan, Lancashire, England; immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his family in 1912; lived in Montreal; and, died in Ste-Foy, Quebec, a suburb of Quebec City. He exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts* and at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
