LOT OF 2: AMERICAN HUSSAR'S SABER AND PILLOW POMMEL

Lot consists of 2 American swords dating 1790 to 1810. A) Hussar style light dragoon saber with scabbard. Iron hilt, flat, tear-drop pommel cap, diamond-shaped capstan. Knuckleguard, flat, widening to diamond near mid-point, narrow counterguard, with rectangular, bevel-edged langets, curling quillon with flat disk. Beveled iron backstrap. Grip leather intact. Double, twisted copper binding wires. Blade with good edge and point. Light silver gray mixed with some darker gray spots. Three etched motifs on either side above the langets: one military, bordered top and bottom by floral. Solingen maker etched in arc at ricasso behind langets. Some light traces of gilt in etching. Scabbard very good. Solid with iron mounts. 2 carrying rings and frog stud. Found in Pennsylvania. CONDITION: Very good. B) Pillow-pommel, 5-ball, brass hilt with some thin traces of silver, spadroon blade. Reeded bone grip. No chips or cracks. Ring attached under pommel, usually associated with naval usage. Blade with good edge and point. Smooth metal surface with muted silver color and scattered gray areas. Obverse etched with floral motifs, small panoply of arms with liberty cap, "Warranted" in a scroll. Reverse with floral motifs and small panoply of arms, with prominent upright American eagle with U.S. shield on chest, clutching arrows and olive branch, with E Pluribus Unum ribbon clutched in beak and flowing overhead. CONDITION: Very good. Minor stains to bone. Remnants of gilt in recesses of etched motifs. Blade Length: (A)29 - 1/2" (B) 32 - 1/2" Overall Length: (A) 35 (B) 38" Condition: Dimensions: Larger: 38".
