Lot consists of: (A) Rifle and Light Infantry Tactics, Volume II, J.B. Lippincott & Co., Philadelphia, 1856. 5 - 1/2" x 3 - 5/8". Written by Lieutenant General William J. Hardee, the text was required reading for officers in both the Union and Confederate armies. Inscribed on front page by an officer. Appears complete with all pages and all foldouts appear intact. Leather spine with red cloth covers remain intact with scattered blemishes. Front cover opens for 90 degrees before getting stiff. Pages are clean with scattered soiling throughout. CONDITION: Good. (B) Infantry Tactics, Volume I, New York, D. Van Nostrand, 1862. Hard cover, cloth covered board with embossed eagle on front and gilt lettering on spine. Ink name and rank of former owner, Lt. Geo. B. Cooley, on front page, as was presented by his adjutant in 1863. 5 - 1/4" x 3 - 1/2". A reference used by soldiers during the American Civil War, designed to be kept in pockets while in the field. Includes illustrations of soldiers, diagrams of troop formations, and even musical tablature for songs used on the march. Covers with scattered blemishes and worn corners. Pages exhibit scattered soiling. Appears complete, with some pages separated but contained between the covers. CONDITION: Good.
