LOT OF 2: EUROPEAN HALBERDS WITH PIERCED DECORATIONS.
Lot consists of: (A) Circa 16th century halberd in the French style on a squared haft. The blade measures measures approximately 6" and the beak measures approximately 4" in length. The squared point measures approximately 20". Haft measures approximately 60" and was most likely added later. The blade and beak features 4 pierced decorations and is secured to the haft with 2 iron straps that measure approximately 33" and are affixed by 15 nails on each side. CONDITION: The metal components exhibit heavy pitting as well as delamination marks. There is a significant crack where the blade meets the point. Haft exhibits handling wear and various dents. Overall fair. (B) Circa 16th century halberd in the German style on a squared shortened haft. The blade measures measures approximately 8 - 1/2" and the beak measures approximately 3 - 3/4" in length. The squared point measures approximately 13". Haft measures approximately 36 - 1/4" and was most likely added later. The blade and beak feature punched decorations which are consistent with other early German halberds. The halberd has its original long iron straps which secure the blade to the haft with six hand forged pointed iron nails on each side. The haft retains a brass museum label that reads "H.1.". CONDITION: The metal components exhibit pitting as well as delamination marks. Evidence of cleaning. Haft exhibits handling wear and various dents. Overall good. PROVENANCE: Ex-Lattimer Collection.
