LOT OF 3: ENGRAVED POWDER HORNS.

Lot consists of (A) Large engraved powder horn of 14" across the bow. Beehive turned wooden plug with wooden knob. Brass tack decoration just above the wooden plug on the horn. On one side there is a finely engraved sun-in-splendor and some olive branches. Then, in another much heavier and more crude hand there is a large flag with patriotic eagle and stars, two snakes, one with an eagle with talons swooping down on it. There is also a sea monster, a crescent moon, and a woman in a dress. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing honey patina. A couple minor chips to wooden base. (B) Fine, professionally engraved patriotic powder horn. Measures about 10 - 1/2" across the bow. Towards the top, on the front "When this you see / Remember me. / JOHN KREPS / 1825" is engraved. Below this is a very formal and professional American eagle with an "E. PLURIBUS UNIM" banner in its beak. Then below this section is the name "J.C. HARTMAN / Made by J.KREPS". There are a series of ornate borders around the diameter. Convex wooden plug retained by wooden pins, brass loop in center. CONDITION: Horn is dry and shows significant carry wear, some damage to spout. A few areas of scattered insect damage. (C) Small engraved priming horn of about 7 - 1/2" across the bow. Turned silver ferrule at spout. Scalloped main body engraved on the front with poem "TAKE NOT THIS HORN / MY HONNEST FRIND / FOR FEEAR THE GALLUS / SHOULD PROVE YOUR END". Below this there is a sail, a bird eating from a tree, and a large 14 gun ship. Wooden plug retains by wooden pins and iron pins. CONDITION: Pleasing honey patina and shows some wear and one insect hole towards base.
