LOT OF 5: US, BRITISH, FRENCH AND SUDANESE SWORDS.

(A) Early 19th Century British sword with unmarked wide flat straight blade, brass hilt and leather grip. Leather scabbard with brass mounts. CONDITION: Blade is grey with areas of dark staining and light surface rust, grip leather shows wear. Scabbard leather is dry with heavy crazing and broken near the tip. (B) Early 19th Century French officer's sword with slightly curved blade, brass stirrup hilt with checkered wood grip. CONDITION: Blade mostly bright / grey with areas of dark staining, wood grip with minor wear. (C) Late 18th Century French officer's sword with curved blade and brass basket hilt guard. CONDITION: Blade is mostly dark with heavy pitting at the tip, grip showing remains of ray skin wrap. (D) US Model 1902 officer's sword with double etched blade marked "Horstmann & Company Philadelphia" on the ricasso, nickle plated scabbard and fittings, black composition grip. CONDITION: Very good with nickle plating on the scabbard displaying minor surface roughness. (E) Sudanese sword with straight blade etched the full length with Arabic script, crocodile skin grip. Scabbard also of crocodile skin. Sudanese swords decorated with crocodile skin with blades decorated with Arabic script were commonly used by followers of the Mahdi during the revolt against the British in the late 19th century and are typical of this period. CONDITION: Blade displays a dark surface with grey areas, grip with minor wear. Scabbard crocodile skin showing moderate wear and a split seam.
