LOT OF THREE J KRIEGER PAINTED CABINET PHOTO CARD

A lot of three collectible Polish J Krieger hand-painted cartes de visite perhaps the most ubiquitous form of nineteenth century photography. The 3 cabinet photo cards are depicting male and female figures of locals in traditional picturesque costumes. From the late 1850s through the latter half of the century, these economical keepsakes circulated en masse and spurred a veritable “cartomania”. Each card is numbered, 139, 123, or 147, to the left. Stamped, J Krieger, lower right. Marked with an original stamp on the back. Photographer: Ignacy Krieger studio (Krakow, Poland), labeled J. Krieger. Comes with vintage newspaper sheets. Circa 1870s.
