Created to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the chronograph and the pioneering achievement of Louis Moinet himself, the Memoris Red Eclipse pays tribute to one of the most important inventions in the history of precision timekeeping. Produced in an exclusive limited edition of only 12 pieces, the watch is housed in an 18k pink gold case enriched with elaborate hand engraving, while its spectacular openworked construction places the chronograph mechanism at the very heart of the design.
Beneath the domed sapphire crystal, the hours and minutes are displayed on a small black grand feu enamel dial, complemented by Louis Moinet’s signature ‘dewdrop’ hands. Two transparent sapphire counters indicate the running seconds and the 30-minute chronograph register, preserving an unobstructed view of the intricate mechanism beneath.
Set against a midnight-blue background scattered with hand-painted stars, the chronograph components are assembled prominently on the dial side, transforming the complication itself into the principal visual element of the watch. The distinctive column wheel, positioned beneath 12 o’clock, controls the system of levers responsible for engaging the chronograph, while the exposed gears and wheels create a captivating three-dimensional display of the movement in operation.
The sapphire crystal caseback provides a further view of the calibre and its refined finishing, including the 18k gold oscillating weight and finely decorated bridges and plates. The self-winding Louis Moinet calibre LM54 operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.
