La Aguada Black-on-Red Pottery Bowl

Pre-Columbian, South America, Argentina, La Aguada / Aquada culture, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. A hand-built redware pottery bowl with a petite, concave foot, rounded walls, and a shallow basin surrounded by a thick rim. The russet-hued body is decorated with applied black curvilinear motifs along the exterior as well as a pair of abstract, checker-bodied figures along the interior walls of the basin. Size: 6.1" W x 3.125" H (15.5 cm x 7.9 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-Arte Primitivo, New York, New York, USA, before 2010; ex-private Southwestern United States collection
