[ translate ]

By Nicolas Coutepoff
The 1900 second volume of a sweeping 4 volume set ("the first description of hunting published in Russia") devoted to the subject of Tsarist hunting in Russia. Only Vol. I (1896) and this Vol. II (1900) were published in French as well (and here translated from the original Russian by DR. Alexis Lupus). Beautifully illustrated thruout, showcasing the work of, among others, the Ukranian artist Nikolay Semenovich Samokish (1860-1944). The lavish gilt and silver-decorated panels, the bright gilt-edges, the lovely decorative pastedowns and endsheets and the vivid, very high-quality color reproductions (all with their original tissue-guards in place) demonstrate that little expense was spared in the production of this impressive, thick folio. A clean, very sharp copy to boot. Tight, well-preserved and easily Near Fine. A magnificent undertaking, this volume focusing exclusively on Tsarist hunting in Russia in the 17th century.
Published by: Expedition pour La Confection des Papiers D'Etat, St. Petersburg, 1900
