Labelled Rogerius - 4/4 - - Violin - Italy

A very fine antique 4/4 violin, labeled Io Bap. Rogerius Bon Nicolai Amati de Cremona alumnus Brixiae fecit Anno Domini 1691. The instrument is in ready to play condition with tears, wears, professionally repaired cracks on top, old & fine ebony set up and Tonica strings. The violin has straight high grained spruce of the top and one piece back of softly flamed maple with matched sides and scroll.

The one piece maple back measures 366 mm.
The total length of the violin is 597 mm.
The width of the upper bouts: 165 mm; middle bouts: 115 mm; lower bouts: 203 mm.

The sound is very deep, rich, powerful, suitable for soloist.
