Lacquered wooden dressing table / bureau. England. First quarter of the 18th century.
Unusual piece of furniture consisting of two parts. The lower is formed by a table with cabriole legs, ending in lion claw and ball feet, while the upper part has a mirror and a lady´s portable folding desk.
Queen Anne style, but decorated in the English "japanning" lacquer technique, in oriental style, which was in fashion at the time as lacquered furniture was being imported from Japan and China.
The adjustable mirror has its original glass. There is a small, secret drawer hidden inside it.
Bureau measurements: 105,5 x 63 x 40 cm. Table measurements: 73 x 85 x 54 cm.
