Landscape Oil Painting signed by JEB '76 [168243]

This landscape painting, oil on canvas, is signed with a monogram by an unknown artist "JEB 76" in the lower right corner. This scene is of two people along a path in the forest near their home. The canvas is 7.75 in. X 10 in. and framed at 16 in. by 18 in. The painting is in very good condition while the frame, thought to be original to the work, shows signs of damage on the left edge as well as shrinkage throughout. Interestingly, there is an inlet at the top center of the frame where a bracket for mounting had been placed and now absent indicating this work was not to be moved easily, possibly from a museum display (speculation). Another feature is that the inner frame is stretched by the use of wood wedges in the corners or canvas keys. Indicating a 19th C. attempt to tighten a sagging canvas. Please see photos for details.
