[ translate ]

23rd-20th century BC. A substantial bronze discoid seal with handle to the reverse, accompanied by a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 82 x 80 x 2mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design is both compartmented and open-work. It consists of a rosette with 7 petals within a plain outer band, and between each pair of petals there is a crescent based on the outer rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is an extremely large piece for its kind, and though there is some wear and incrustation on the face -- the back has been cleaned -- it is sound and could be further cleaned.' 107 grams, 82mm (3 1/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection number T-777, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
