Large Chinese Han Sancai Glaze Earth Spirit

Chinese, Han Dynasty. The large sancai glazed lionese seated winged earth spirit having antlers grown from the brow with flame form incised fins behind the ears and running down the back. The shoulders with crescent form blades framing the wings. The grimacing face with bared fang teeth and bulging eyes with flared nostrils. Seated on its haunches with cloven hooves on a kidney form mount. Approx: h. 38". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Morton & Kathleen Sachs of Louisville, Kentucky, purchased from TK Asian Antiquities (Williamsburg, VA) in 2000 or 2001 for $6,600.
