Large Dresden Porcelain & Lace Rococo Musical Quintet Figural Group

[ translate ]

Large and elaborately modeled Dresden porcelain figural group depicting an 18th-century Rococo court musical ensemble arranged in a richly theatrical composition. The scene features five finely dressed figures gathered around an assortment of individually modeled instruments, including a seated cellist in an orange coat, a female lute or mandolin player in a sage green gown, a pianist seated at a decorated spinet, a standing gentleman conductor or instructor in a dark green coat, and a female harpist in a pale blue gown. Each figure is finished with hand-painted facial features and period costume details, while the ladies’ garments incorporate delicate applied porcelain lacework that gives the group exceptional texture and visual depth. The instruments are carefully rendered with molded strings, carved details, and painted embellishment, and the spinet is further enhanced with a draped decorative cloth. The ensemble is raised on a molded oval base enriched with gilt Rococo scrollwork and ornamental flourishes. Marked Dresden with an “N” on the underside. The combination of large scale, multiple musicians, extensive lacework, and finely modeled instrumentation gives the group strong decorative presence. Condition should be closely inspected for the small chips, losses, or restorations commonly found on fine applied lacework, instrument strings, fingers, and other projecting details. Measures 11.5" H x 21.75" W x 9.5" D.
