Large Egyptian Wooden Statue of a Noble
Second Intermediate Period, c.1600 BC. A carved wooden statue modelled in the round as a nobleman striding forwards wearing a shin-length kilt, moveable arms with hands held in fists, creating sockets, finely carved naturalistic detailing to the face, ears and hands, rectangular sockets to the base of the feet. Cf. D'Auria, S., Lacovara, P. and Roherig, C.H., Mummies and Magic: the Funerary Arts of Ancient Egypt, Boston, 1988, p.115, fig.70, for a comparable figure. 539 grams, 24.5cm wide (9 3/4").
