[ translate ]

Siberia or northern North America, Early Pliocene to Early Holocene, ca. 5 million years ago to 10,000 years ago. A fine, large fossilized example of a mammoth tooth with beautiful deposits on its surface, especially on one end, where they are a very dark navy blue/black mottled with a warm cream color. The original chemicals of the teeth have been replaced in the fossilization process with quartz (silica) and other minerals, creating a rich, deep brown and black elsewhere on the surface. Mammoth teeth were highly specialized, some of the largest grinding teeth in the animal kingdom, adapted to crush woody vegetable matter in ancient forests. Size: 10.4" W x 5.6" H (26.4 cm x 14.2 cm)

Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
