Large Japanese Satsuma Pottery Floor Urn

Japan, late 19th century. A Satsuma pottery lidded floor urn with 5-leg base, jar form with applied parcel-gilt guardian lion handles, the body decorated in enamels with warriors in a landscape, with matching domical lid having a lion with ball finial, the supporting legs with lion's head caps and paw feet. Signed, overglaze red, inside lid and under base. Approx. h. 30", w. 16", d. 11.75". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Eldridge ofAtlanta, Georgia.
Condition Report: One foot chipped, both handles with chips to lion tails, mounted slightly askew to attached base (attached with glaze). Firing crack visible in interior base. Wear to some gilt.
