A classical theme with this late 18th Century oil on canvas depiction of Christ and the Crucifixion. A poignant and thought provoking portrayal of this much-painted theme. The canvas has been relined within the last 30 years and the frame is most definitely much later and mid 20th Century . There is scattered craquelure but the surface is stable and the most likely re- varnish is intact and evening covered. A good sized painting and one for the classical collector of religious and devotional themed art. A very nice piece .
