Large Narino Painted Whistle

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Narino/Capuli Complex, ca. 850 to 1500 CE. Beautiful pottery whistle! Molded in the form of a conch sea shell, painted in bright red over tan geometric patterns, mouth-hole at top with two holes allowing small variations in the pitch. This type of whistle is used by blowing air across the opening unlike most ancient whistles where air is blown into the opening. Size: 6"L x 3"H.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, 1995-2010; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950 to 1960s
