Large Vase by Harita Rokuzan

Heavy branches laden with persimmons descend from the rim and spread across the vessel, where numerous monkeys climb, hang, reach for fruit, or rest among the rocks. Each figure is carved in a different pose, creating a lively composition that flows naturally around the entire body of the vase. The lower section is modeled in bold high relief with rugged rocks and a cascading stream, complemented by peonies and other flowering plants. Trees, fruit, flowers, and monkeys are seamlessly integrated into a continuous landscape that reveals new details from every viewing angle. The monkeys are rendered with remarkable attention to their fur, facial expressions, and animated movements. Strong relief carving creates dramatic depth and shadow, while the carefully applied colors enhance the sculptural effect. Combining expressive modeling with rich decorative detail, this impressive vase demonstrates the outstanding craftsmanship of Harita Ryokuzan. Height: 55.5cm Length: 41cm Wide: 39.5cm
