Large Yellow-painted and Paint-decorated Wooden Storage Box, New England, 19th century, with stencil-decorated foliate motifs in red and green, ht. 12, dia. 18 3/4 in.

There is some paint wear to the box, the lid board and bottom board have both shrunk and there are small gaps between the boards and the bentwood sides. There is a red/brown discolored area approx 3 x 5 inches to the inside of the lid. There is no evidence of any earlier paint, and the paint does have age, but we can't say for certain that the box has always been painted this way.
