Large art nouveau casket with scarabs

LARGE ART NOUVEAU CASKET WITH SCARABS MADE OF BRONZE, ENAMEL, SILVER MOUNTINGS WITH AN INTERIOR OF ROSEWOOD.

Date: Around 1900.
Technique: Bronze with colourful enamel decor and iron mountings with niello decor. Inside made of rosewood.
Description: Rectangular corpus with plant-shaped feet under each corner. These merge into slightly
waved corner decorations, stretching up to the upper edge, each decorated with a small
lizard. The walls decorated on all sides with coloured enamel in the shape of forget me
nots, red coral branches and other plants bearing fruits. The walls are structured by
small bars with attached iron fittings, decorated with niello decor on the edges. Bronze
scarab on each of them. On the front elaborately designed clasp above the lock. Inside
with three inserts, made of rosewood. Inserts with raised side handles and silver fittings
on the corners.
Measurement: 24x41x23cm.
Mark: On the underside handwritten inventory number (?) "SM 193".
Mark: The silver mountings of the three inserts marked: standard mark Pest for 800 (ca.1867-1922), maker's mark RAS (?).
