This punch bowl documents the publicized victory of the cutterBedouin over the sloop Gracie on October 18, 1883 for the Bennett Cup in a race organized by the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club of Oyster Bay, New York. Covered in the New York Times , October 19, 1883, with the headline, "The Cutter Bedouin's Victory: The Gracie beaten nearly fifteen minutes in a forty- mile race," the match is also detailed in Frederick Schiller Cozzens, Yachts and Yachting (1887) p. 98.
