Large mass extinction fossil of Asaphus trilobites

[ translate ]

Large mass extinction fossil of Asaphus trilobites in a natural death group, Asaphus sp., Ordovician Period, 485 - 443 million years ago, Anti-Atlas Mountains. This very rare massive slab of 13 large Asaphus trilobites is a true museum showpiece specimen with incredible high relief of all trilobites. The specimen shows a naturally occurring mass death assemblage of trilobites on their original matrix, prepared to expose the fossils in their original position as when they were buried. This remarkable specimen is 100% natural with all trilobites found together as shown in their natural positions, and with no composites. Some disastrous event would have been responsible for the sudden death and burial of this assemblage of trilobites. While all of the specimens are extremely well-preserved, some also display rarely seen levels of detail. This piece is a highly educational specimen, showing both, some of the exotic life-forms that lived on our planet almost a half a billion years ago, and demonstrating deadly events in past history where large numbers of creatures died at the hands of a brutal environment. There has been no repair to the trilobites, but the matrix has been repaired and reinforced on the backside. Overall: 27 x 18 inches; Trilobites: 4 - 5 1/2 inches. Ex Florida private collection. Please note that due to the size and weight of this lot it will require crating and shipping via freight services. These costs could be quite high, especially for our international bidders, so please contact for a quote prior to bidding if you have concerns regarding the shipping. Thank you!

Condition: The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections , the effects of aging, or repair/restoration work.
