⁂ A rare satire on naval life. Upon being asked by a bookseller to whom he had offered the work for publication whether the work was in the manner of Doctor Syntax the author replied 'No, Sir, it is not like Doctor Syntax; Paddy Hew would be ashamed to be seen in the same filed with such a milksop'.
