Late 19th C. Chinese Brass Opium Scale w/ Wood Case

**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, China, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A compact brass opium scale with a hinged T-bar that supports a pair of shallow scale cups with thin string. The scale is able to collapse and fit inside of the hand-carved wooden carrying case that itself has a hinged lid that swivels open to reveal the interior cavity. The abstract shape of the case features a C-shaped lower body and a flat base, and the top of the lid is decorated with a trio of poppy flowers in low relief. Size (case): 3.75" W x 8.25" H (9.5 cm x 21 cm)

Condition Report: Stringing between cups and scale body is perhaps modern. Scale cups and wooden box have minor abrasions and indentations, with light encrustations within box. Nice patina throughout.
