Late 19th C. Indonesian Steel Kris w/ Wood Sheath

**First Time At Auction**

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely kris dagger (also keris) with a hand-carved wooden Donoriko-style handle with a cresting 'head' and intricate foliate motifs just above the hemispherical base, and beneath is a copper spacer cap with red, green, and colorless stones set within petite bezels. The forged steel blade has a gentle serpentine profile, a projecting hand guard, and sharpened edges that taper down to a rounded tip. The wooden sheath has a bulbous guard protector and a copper jacket that features flowing linear and foliate motifs in repousse. Size (w/ sheath): 5.375" W x 16.25" H (13.7 cm x 41.3 cm); (length of blade): 13" L (33 cm)

Condition Report: Sheath jacket adhered to wooden blade housing and cannot be removed. Minor nicks to blade and guard protector, with softening to some finer details on sheath jacket and handle, and petite area of loss to sheath on one side near upper jacket lip. Nice patina throughout.
